The Rohtak Municipal Committee was first constituted in 1885 under the Punjab Municipal Act, 1884. The boundaries, originally fixed at the time of its constitution, were revised subsequently in 1897, 1922 and 1952. In 1952, in addition to the civil station area, police lines, jail, waterworks, the new township, mud-huts and a few villages were included within the municipal limits.
